| How can 25 equal 64? The answer is simple - 25 years of the Carmody Open equals 64 fatherless boys helped by the Kevin Carmody Scholarship Fund. This simple equation comes from the Jesuit calculus of "Men for Others."
Twenty-five years is a remarkable record and because of your generosity, we continue to be one of the most enjoyable golf tournaments in town - all for the benefit of fatherless boys at Gonzaga.
"The Carmody Open
has been marvelous in providing scholarship support
for fatherless boys and keeping the memories of Kevin
Carmody alive," says Danny Costello '72, Gonzaga's
Vice President of Advancement.
In order to continue the good work of the tourament, we need your participation. This year the outing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Andrews Air Force Base, giving us 36 holes at the same location. The field will be limited to the first 288 golfers.
Kevin
Carmody ’62, at Gonzaga, was a class officer,
co-captain of the football team and an all-Metropolitan
selection at center. At Boston College he was a class
officer and was pledge master of his fraternity. Following
his graduation from Catholic University Law School and
a year as law clerk for Chief United States District
Court Judge Edward M. Curran, he joined the office of
the United States District Attorney. Upon leaving the
District Attorney’s office, he joined the law
firm founded by his father, Whiteford, Hart, Carmody
and Wilson. He was very active in the Gonzaga Alumni
Association and, during his two-year term as President,
he inaugurated several traditions, most notably the
Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame.
His spirit and enthusiasm are with us today and in
a real sense it can be said that once again he has gotten
us to come together to enjoy ourselves while pursuing
a common goal—obtaining funds for the education
of Gonzaga students who lost their father.
